Sarah Miller

As a member of staff council, we worked with the university administration and to give voice to the staff. We planned events, helped to connect the different departments by sharing information, and found ways to make sure staff felt appreciated. I participated in the Events committee and served as the Secretary.

I have served as the first Vice President for the Sward PTA as well as coordinating and volunteering for events for 25-500 students and families at Sward Elementary School and at Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School. Chaired the Winter Carnival annual event for three years. Have served as a co-chair and volunteer for numerous events, including the Scholastic Book Fair.

I accompanied six - eight students on three one week service trips to different faith organizations providing service to low income families in Appalachian communities. We cleaned, built and fixed homes, or provided other labor as needed. As chaperone, I worked closely with the students to do the work as well as reflect on the spiritual inpacts of our experiences.

I volunteer to help at various Humanities Festival events in Chicago. I am placed as needed to help with ticket scanning, participant direction and sign in, hospitality, or anything else that needs to be done to make an individual event run as smoothly as possible. In this small way, I get to help bring fascinating cultural events to the people of Chicago, and enjoy them myself!

Attended the annual five day program with OSAP to learn about implementing the Oxford Study Abroad Programme at Saint Xavier University. Participated in lectures, tours and discussions with OSAP employees, Oxford faculty, and fellow faculty from the US. Once home, I helped to prepare and send the first group of SXU students to Oxford in May of 2017.

Volunteered as Stage Coordinator for events at the 2019 Lit Fest.
